There aren’t too many events or things in my life that stand out which I’m proud of. Sure there may be one or two incidents here and there that I’ve done that made me happy, but nothing so significant that it has made me swell with joy at the mere thought of it.
When I was ten I was on an episode of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. I didn’t get to meet Jane Seymour, but to skip school to play a farm girl with a bonnet was pretty exciting, but not the most exciting thing I’ve done.
When I was sixteen, I went to New York City with a group of friends and helped rescue a young girl who was lost on a train. I ran non-stop for almost a mile and a half to the next train station to get her. I was so happy to help her when no one else would, but I think I was more pleased with the fact that I ran continuously for anything other than food. That was great, but it still doesn’t feel like the best thing I’ve done.
At twenty-four, I graduated from my Master’s program with a 4.00. That was cool, but since I barely use the degree so I guess that doesn’t really count.
But at thirty years old I think I found the event, the thing that I did, that has made me the happiest. I made my first music video! It may sound silly, but to record a song was scary. To be in a studio singing into a mic was terrifying. But to take an idea and see it grow to its fullest in spite of being apprehensive about it has to be the most rewarding thing I have done. It’s difficult to do something outside of your comfort zone and it’s just as hard to ignore the words other people may say. But to move past that and do what makes you genuinely happy, regardless of how crazy it may be, is the best feeling in the word! In doing that, I created a music video about a restaurant I love, Helados Pops. I got to work with an astute music producer, a creative graphic designer, and an amazing director and producer. With their help I was able to bring a dream to fruition and ultimately create a project that I am immensely proud to have said I completed. Sorry Jane Seymour, little girl, and grad school, but this is the best and most exciting thing I’ve done to date.
