Saltine Effortlessly Captures the Seafood Style of Norfolk, Virginia
When landing in a new city, one of my favorite things to do is to find my luggage.
If you’ve had travel instances where your suitcases didn’t make it to the destination like I have, then wrapping your hands around your things from the carousel is a great feeling. Just as equally great is the feeling of exploring a new city and finding new restaurants to dine. After touching down in Norfolk on a press trip with Visit Norfolk (the tourism board of Norfolk), dropping my belongings at the Sheraton Hotel, I met up with the group surrounding the occasion and made our way to Saltine.
Positioned within The Main in Downtown Norfolk, Saltine sits within a high traffic business area with the Hilton next door. Opening in spring of 2017, Saltine serves fresh seasonal focused seafood from its expansive kitchen and raw bar for lunch and dinner services daily. Lead by the award winning Executive Chef Fabio Capparelli, the restaurant serves a menu that pull in some of the cities favorites including harvested oysters, sushi grade tuna, and a she crab soup that could put many others to shame.
There’s little to say about the restaurant that leans away from the fact that it’s a must-visit while in Norfolk. The bones of it are refined and sophisticated, the menu elongates with each page to reveal plates that will bring you back time after time, and the staff know how to make a dinner into an experience. From the moment you walk in to be seated to the second you step outside to depart it’s a place where you should be. If not for multiple times, at least once to have a memory of such a special place that carries a great deal of Norfolk within its doors.
