3 Ways to Know It’s Time to Rebrand Your Website
[All photos in this post where taken by Huong Nguyen of Velvet Media and Marketing in Downtown Los Angeles]
Earlier this month I changed everything.
Not so much the words and the blog (actually maybe a little bit), but really the appearance of this entire website. The logo, the stationary, the newsletter, and a few other things got a bit of a much needed update. It’s been a few weeks since the rebrand and looking at things now, I love it. But it wasn’t a simple click and switch to get a new look. To be honest, I dragged my feet a bit at the thought knowing it was something I needed to do. If you’re anything like how I was just a few months back, then you’re probably already rebranding your blog or website. But what if you’re not there just yet? Maybe you’re on the fence and you’re unsure if even need a rebrand. If you’re stuck between your blog and a new creative space, then I have three ways to know that it’s time for you to update your look and rebrand your blog.

You’re Getting Bored with It
You don’t hate your website – honestly you probably never could – but you’re getting a bit bored with it. Not what you’re saying, but the way it looks. Things look the same and maybe it doesn’t excite you any longer. Sure you could add another widget, update a few pictures, but deep down you know that what you really want is a complete aesthetic overall to have your website look the way you think it should now. When you first started, the appeal of your website was exactly what you wanted. But you’ve done a bit and you’ve grown a bit since then. Where you are now and what you’ve learned along the way has advanced and your taste in the site that you log into and call your own has probably done the same too. If you’re in that position, don’t feel alone because I was also. Should you be nodding your head in agreement, then there’s a great chance that you’re bored with the appearance of your website and it’s time for a rebrand.
You Don’t Feel Like You’re Standing Out
One of the most important things about being a blogger regardless of your industry is that you have to stand out. Maybe you’re funny in your restaurant reviews, you have killer discount codes for clothes, or you give the best behind the scenes tips on photography. Whatever it is, you know you have to stand out. But sometimes, your website may look like someone else’s. There can be a bit of confusion if your food page looks like another and if that happens: honey let’s do a little upgrade. I had this experience when I saw another restaurant reviewer ended up purchasing my theme and BOOM! we could easily get confused. I know the idea may be: I had it first, I shouldn’t change. But I was feeling bored and then here this guy came along. At that point, it was time for an update. In a similar situation or even somewhat close? Then you might want to listen to the voice in the back of your head and go for the update.
You’re Craving Something More
You may not be bored with your website and you might be standing out just fine and dandy in your industry. However, when you log into your website or look at it on your phone there’s something inside of you that yearns for more. It could be a quiet voice or one screaming right at you. Whichever one it may be, if there’s something in you that’s craving more for your website or your brand then you deserve to go with it. If you’re thinking about new business cards or a new logo, what’s stopping you? Should there be something inside of you urging you to go to the next level of your brand, stop pushing it to the bottom of your to-do list. Go for it.
If you’re on the fence about rebranding your website, don’t freak out. It may seem like a lot of work (who am I kidding, it is!), but it feels great once it’s done. Depending on what you’re looking to do an updated look can drastically change your perspective on your site. It can reinvigorate how you feel about your content and it can even get your excited about new ideas. A rebrand – from logo to website overall – might be exactly what you need. If you’re bored with your site, unsure if you stand out, or even craving something more then it’s time to go for it and simply do it. Make it happen; you deserve it.
