I love Instagram.
Not because of the obvious reasons. Yes, it’s a great social media platform and I can find highly relevant memes to apply to my life. But I actually love it because it puts me in mobile proximity to people and brands I may have never discovered. This happened when I was scrolling through hashtag results of ‘pie’–for research purposes of course. In between my side-by-side analysis of pies I stumbled upon the page for Sugar Pie, Honey Buns, and I was in love. After I realized that I was liking almost all of their pictures, I decided it would be best to find them and try one of their pies. I found that they aren’t a traditional brick and mortar business but a husband and wife duo who have built their brand awareness via word of mouth, online, and presence at farmers markets. With luck, I caught wind that they would be at an upcoming farmer’s market in Downtown’s Grand Park. Victory would be mine!
When the day finally arrived, I grabbed cash and found their booth at the market. Jonathon sold me my sought after slice of Brown Butter Pecan Pie ($5). I was so happy to get my hands on the pie. It was devoured in seconds—it would have been milliseconds but that damn fork kept getting in the way. The pie is simply delightful. It has this flaky crust that lines the filling, and the ingredients are balanced effortlessly. Not too much brown sugar and not too many pecans. I hate the pecan pies that taste like straight crust and nuts. That wasn’t the case here, it was perfectly nutty.
My only regret was I only ordered one slice. What was my gut thinking?! While I would love to give you the schedule of events where you can find them, I can’t. They aren’t set to be at any upcoming farmers markets, but you can order a batch at their site and on Good Eggs. That means you can get their pie delivered straight to you. You don’t have to struggle to find parking, walk through crowds of people, or swat away the guy trying to sell you bundles of kale. You can relax and wait for it to show up at your door. Easy as pie!
