All my life I’ve been fat mentally, but more recently it’s starting to become physical. My fatness reached an all new low (or high) last week when I gorged on four Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches for no reason other than “I do what I want”. I hope you read that in Cartman’s voice. Once I discovered the horrific reality that I had licked four wrappers clean, I realized I needed an intervention. That intervention came three days later when I went to Nekter Juice Bar in Pasadena for their grand opening and 16oz drink giveaway.
When I heard that Nektar was opening up in Pasadena I knew it was a sign that I needed something to jump start my intervention. I know what you’re thinking: “Why are you drinking stuff when you just ate everything?” It’s because it’s healthier than what I usually eat and maybe it can help me get me on the right track. I got there bright and early before work and stood in line for a few minutes before I ordered. That gave me time to check out the lime green cleanse bags that were flying off the shelf, the interior, and the chance to find a drink!
I ordered the Pink Flamingo ($4.95) and since I was there for the grand opening, the 16oz was free. The drink had pitaya, strawberries, pineapple, agave nectar and coconut water as its base. As I got it from the counter, I could see it lived up to its name. It was a striking and bright magenta color. Thanks to the coconut water, it’s wasn’t as thick as a smoothie that could have been made with yogurt or milk. It was nice and light and it didn’t feel like it would weigh me down. The pitaya seeds added a bit of texture to the drink so it didn’t taste of complete liquid. Instead, it was like a roller coaster of twists and turns of consistency. I liked the way all the flavors of the fruit blended together to make one solid drink. No one fruit was the leading component and nothing lagged.
My favorite part about Nekter was the drink was only 180 calories. I had one good 16 oz of nature’s natural fruits to set me in a positive direction. Now if they could just make a version that tasted like cheeseburgers then Nekter could be my new positive addiction.
