When you become an adult, you lose some of the comforts that came with being a little kid. For instance: taking naps at school, playing in a tree house, and drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows. Although we can’t do them all, the latter, transitioned effortlessly into adulthood thanks to Café Demitasse. The Little Tokyo shop took the well-loved drink from your childhood and made it delicious yet sophisticated for the 18 and over crowd. It’s called a Lavender Liquid Hot Chocolate ($5). It may not come in the big Power Rangers cup you had while growing up, but the portion size is more than enough. The drink itself is extremely thick and packed with intense chocolate in every sip. The lavender in the name is an extract that’s added at the end of the mixing process. When drinking the hot chocolate, the lavender gently creeps up as a subtle after taste. If you’re not really feeling it, you can always ask them to hold it. But don’t get your hopes up thinking there are multiple extract flavors; as of now it’s only the lavender.
The part of the drink that truly makes you feel like a kid again is the toasted marshmallow. While it can come untoasted, you have to have it browned. It’s sweet, slightly chewy, and as soft as all the expensive pillows at Macy’s. The two together are a perfect pair that will satisfy the child inside of you. While we may not be able to take naps at work and people may look at you funny when you climb into a treehouse, at least you can still have your hot chocolate with marshmallows. Seriously, don’t climb into a tree house you’ll look crazy.
