Along the trek for tacos, one of the stops was to Copa d’Oro. Unlike my visit to Border Grill where I filled up on tacos, the trek went to Copa specifically for drinks. That doesn’t mean they don’t have a food menu—they do—but they were giving us on the trek a peak into their signature drinks, and I was eager to try them out. We got two drinks: the Copa de Loco and Midnight Mariachi. Let me apologize in advance for not having the prices. I don’t know how I let that slide, but it was totally a rookie mistake!
Now that we’re past that, let’s talk about the sips!
I ordered the Copa de Loco and was beyond pleased with it! It’s made of tequila, agave, grapefruit juice, lime juice, aperol, orange bitter, and topped with a grapefruit slice. It wasn’t heavy on the side of alcohol, but the liquor was very present. The best part of it was the combination of lime and grapefruit. It was tart, light, and delicious! Plus, it had an actual grapefruit on top of it which (everyone knows) makes it a healthy drink.Obviously.
The second of the two drinks, Midnight Mariachi, is made of tequila reposado, Montenegro, cynar, orange peel, and a dash of Jerry Thomas bitters. It was a stronger drink with a stiff kick that is perfect for the person who likes a powerful mixture.
I enjoyed the two drinks at Copa because they were crafted to fit a person’s taste. If you like a fruitier drink, it’s Copa d’ Oro. If you like a tougher concoction it’s the Midnight Mariachi. And with tequila as the basis for both cups, they are definitely fun choices to have on Cinco de Mayo!
