If one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to explore new restaurants (which it should be since you’re reading this blog) then right now is the perfect time! As Pasadena Cheeseburger Week continues, you can get deals on great burgers at a jaw-dropping price. If you’re wondering where to go to grab a burger today, allow me to act like I run your life and tell you to go to Slater’s 50/50 in Old Town Pasadena.
If you have never been to Slater’s, then you have to know that it isn’t just any burger joint. It’s the type of restaurant where you can truly design your burger any way you choose. If you want a turkey patty with red onions, eggs, Fritos, peanut butter, vampire dip, and salsa, then you can. If you’re not into the elaborate burger design then keep it simple—the choice is yours. For this visit I ordered their signature 50/50 patty (half bacon, half beef), American cheese, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, thick cut bacon, avocado slices (screw you, avocado mash), and the bacon island dressing all within the pretzel bun. Simple enough, right? You get to choose the name of your burger and I named mine Funky Town ($11.45). As in, “won’t you take me to, FUNKY TOWN!” Of course I added sweet potato fries ($4.95) and then paired it with an apple cider ale ($6).
Being able to create a dream burger is great. You don’t have to abide by the menu rules and you don’t have to shove the chef’s creation down your throat. As I imagined, I’m pretty good at picking a burger because Funky Town was delicious! It oozed with sauce that mixed well with the juice from the patty and bacon. The avocado smeared in so smoothly with that hybrid sauce that it tasted like a new mashup spread that even Kraft would want to sell. Although the pretzel bun is somewhat tough, the patty is so tender that the two contrasts blended seamlessly. For Pasadena Cheeseburger Week, Slater’s is offering their 50/50 patty plus a beer for $10. That’s a big deal considering my meal (outside of the week) was almost twice that amount. If you have the time, I would suggest (really coerce) you to go. If you love it, you may end up like myself where you question whether or not to give Slater’s full credit for the great plate. Maybe you only give them 50%. I mean, I did design the burger. That counts for something, right? Right?

Out of all the times I have eaten at Slater’s 50/50, I have never made my own burger. I might have to try doing that.
Wha???!!! You have to! What do you normally get when you go?
