Missed Dine LA at Jane Q? Here Are Some Dishes You Can Still Try Now!
Dine LA is long and gone, but if you thought you had to rush into restaurants during the two-week promotion period to experience exclusive menus then you’re wrong. Sure visiting during Dine LA would have given you the chance to check out great eateries at a discounted price, but if you couldn’t make it then you’ll be just fine. I had the chance to visit Jane Q, a Dine LA restaurant, and enjoyed the menu so much that it’s worth a visit any time of the year.
Downstairs from Ever Bar in the Kimpton Everly Hotel in Hollywood is Jane Q. Looking like the type of restaurant you would find in a design magazine, the restaurant is beautiful. Minimalist colors, gorgeous fixtures, and windows that let in all of the light gracing the City of Angels, Jane Q is a delight to be in. Sitting across from my good friend, Alexis, our eyes darted up and down the menu to find the dishes that caught our attention. Seconds, minutes, and with the return of our waiter we made our choices.
Starting with drinks, we both took the suggestion of our waiter and ordered two of the Infused G&T’s ($13). It didn’t take long to realize that Alexis’ Mint and Cucumber version of the cocktail was the best. Strong and weighted, the cocktail didn’t lean away from being forward with their level of alcohol while carrying a beautiful degree of their theme. The mint balanced the cocktail making it fragrant while the cucumber made it refreshing. A good choice for any fan of the G&T.
As sips of the cocktails were had, the first of our three courses arrived. Alexis went with the Kale “Waldorf” Salad ($13) and I had the Housemade Pork Meatballs ($16). Jumping between her plate and mine was the best way to start the dinner as I couldn’t maintain any degree of self-control after looking at the plates before us. The beautiful salad boasted of kale which was covered with apples, grapes, blue cheese, toasted walnuts, and a lemon vinaigrette. It was a breath of fresh air from typical salads and had just the right components without seeming overwhelming. A good selection of blue cheese and walnuts alongside a handful of fruit could easily be the plate to help me get my daily intake of fruits and veggies, if it wouldn’t be weird showing up at Jane Q every day.
Just as delicious was the plate of meatballs. Perfectly rounded meatballs were covered with a san marzano tomato sauce, fresh ricotta, and garnished with garden basil. Each meatball was juicy and the ricotta cheese gave the hearty meatballs a delicious richness that would have been greatly missed if it weren’t included. I could have finished each and every one that sat before me, but the second course in all its glory was placed before us.
A Herb Roasted Chicken ($26) for me and the Daily Pizza (price unavailable) for Alexis were exciting as they were placed before us. My chicken sat on a green harissa and was paired with the perfect root vegetables. Although the chicken may have appeared small, it was more than enough for one person. With my knife and fork in hand I sliced and grabbed bites of the succulent chicken. Dragging the chicken through the harissa while picking up the veggies of carrots and potatoes was more filling and flavorful than I had expected. I managed to save some space for a slice of Alexis’ pizza and I was glad I did. Covered with zucchini, tomatoes, and peppers I was surprised at how well this pizza tasted. It was light, beautiful, and had me reconsidering a pizza solely comprised of vegetables. Did her pizza win me over? Absolutely.
When it came to dessert, I loved my dish more than I did Alexis’.
Alexis ordered the Salted Caramel Brownie ($11) with vanilla ice cream and raspberries which didn’t capture my interest much. On the other hand, I fell head over heels for the Chef’s Special Dessert ($12) which for this night was the bread pudding. With fresh berries, vanilla ice cream, and a crème anglais, the bread pudding was incredibly delicious. The warmest bread inhaled the sweet anglais and ice cream like a sponge that was only released in each bite. Quite possibly the perfect timing. Combining the bread and ice cream with the strawberries and blueberries created a contrast of flavors that would only lead me to smile in elation. It was just right.
Even though Alexis and I tried these plates during Dine LA, it’s a no brainer for me to say Jane Q is worth a visit any month throughout the year. From the salad to the bread pudding and the plates that fell in between it was a delicious dinner. Each item that we tried from the menu was so delightful that I would suggest it whether it was at the promotional or regular price. If you’re ever in the area and looking for a beautiful restaurant that has plates to match, Jane Q is the place to go!
