After catching up on a night of sleep and getting situated to the time difference in Phuket, my cousins and I were ready to explore the city. I was too, but I was really ready to explore the restaurants! One of the first things we did before any adventure was get breakfast. Since we really didn’t know what was around the area, we went to Chou Chou Deli Shop on the first floor of the hotel.
Chou Chou is a small bakery that creates charming drinks, sandwiches, and baked goods. The staff initially came off shy and quiet, but when they began to tell us about the food they slowly started to open up. As we took a look through the glass display showcasing the pastries, one item in particular caught our attention. Or did it catch our taste buds? Either way, it was the Butterfly Pea (75 baht, $2.08) that we had in our early morning check in. That night we wanted 50 butterfly pea desserts after trying it, but refrained in order to avoid looking like a bunch of gluttons in another country. Since they were so inexpensive and we now knew where to get them, ordering 50 didn’t sound like a bad idea.
This butterfly pea was lightly browned, crowned with peanuts, topped with a butterfly pea flower petal, frosted with an extract from the flower of the country, and filed with vanilla custard. It was light, it didn’t taste too sugary, and the frosting was so unique that it’s hard to describe or compare it to anything. Just know that it was delightful!
To go with the butterfly pea, I ordered a Grand Mixed Fruit Smoothie (160 baht, $4.44). The smoothie was made of passion fruit, green apples, papayas, and mangoes. The description alone sounded as if it would be refreshing, but it was the taste of it that truly confirmed that. With the first sips of the smoothie it was clear that it was made of fresh fruit. So fresh I wouldn’t be shocked if they had fruit trees somewhere on the hotel grounds. It didn’t taste as if it was doctored up with unnecessary additives. Instead it was simple and delicious. It would later set the bar for all smoothies in Thailand.
In addition to what I ordered, Brittany and Alicia got a few great items too. Alicia ordered the Banana Bread (not pictured) and Brittany got the Chocolate Cake (100 baht, $2.77). Not sure if Brittany understands what constitutes as breakfast food, but chocolate cake isn’t it. In spite of that, the cake was moist and rich. It would be perfect for dessert, but as the first meal of the day…not so much.
Chou Chou is an adorable shop that is a perfect destination for tourists. The appeal is quaint, the pasties are pleasant, and it will easily become a place to frequent. And I say that from experience.

These look so yummy, have to visit next time im over in thailand.
It’s definitely a yummy spot. Hope you get to have it when you go!!
This looks like heaven! I would kill for any of those pastries right now
Lol kill, commit a felony, not show up to work. Yeah I’d do borderline illegal things for the pastries too j/k! =]
Everything looks amazing! And your pictures and site layout are gorgeous!
Although technically chocolate cake isn’t a breakfast food, it probably is about as “good” for you as any other breakfast pastry, lol.
I’ve never been to Thailand ( I’ve never been most places), but if all the food looks like that I may need to go soon! 🙂
OMG thank you so much for your sweet words, I appreciate them soooo much! And I agree, it has to be as good as other pastries! And yes, all the food is just as good and my favorite part: it’s soooo inexpensive! But now we gotta work on that getting you to most places part ;P
Gosh everything looks amazing, i want to have a bite =D can i ??
