Think of the most rewarding feeling you’ve ever experienced in your life.
Maybe it’s waking up to the love of your life, welcoming your first child, or getting the keys to your new home. There could even be the incredible chance that you’ve experienced all those moments or you’ve discovered a few that may be different than the aforementioned, but are still just as special. As a single girl with no kids and no home with a white picket fence I can’t relate to those instances, but I do have one of my own that I get to enjoy with pure elation. It’s the feeling of taking my bra off after a long day. Sure it’s not a big moment, but the minute I fling my Victoria Secret bondage contraption across the room it’s basically the same feeling. Coming in at a close second is eating ice cream on a summer day. I got the latter opportunity today as I visited the first Los Angeles location of Humphry Slocombe in Venice.
The preview day allowed media guests the chance to check out the new 1000-square-foot location on the bustling Santa Monica street of Abbot Kinney. While there are a few artistic touches left to install before the opening day on Saturday August 18, the store is pretty much up and running. A freezer holds pints of their flavors for the grab-and-go customer. Opposite of that, a merchandise wall displays their Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream Book, t-shirts, and delicious packaged toppings like their bourbon caramel all for sale.
Diverting my attention from the apparel and products, I spent the rest of my time sampling their unique ice cream flavors; each and every single one of them. From Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple to Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee to Roy Choi’s Hawaiian Shave Ice and a handful of other flavors in between. I spent a good amount of time exploring the creativity of the ice cream before deciding on which ones I loved most. To the surprise of no one behind the counter, I fell in love with the Salted Caramel Cocoa Nib, Blueberry Boy Bait, and Secret Breakfast.
The flavors are deliciously creamy, sweet, and packed with leading ingredients you may not find in other shops. If you’re eager to find a few favorites of your own, the shop is having their grand opening this Saturday August 18 from 11am to 12am. The event will be hosted by popular drag queens and guests can grab free single scoops, jump in photo opps, score giveaways, and more. The grand opening will also collaborate with The Trevor Project where guests can make donations to the organization. The 20-year old organization works to bring an end to suicide amongst lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals between thirteen and twenty-four years old by offering crisis intervention and suicide prevention services. All in all, this weekend at Humphry Slocombe is going to be an exciting one so I highly suggest you get their early to beat the line. You can hang with lively personalities, find some favorite flavors, donate to a cause, and fall in love with Humphry Slocombe’s first Los Angeles location. I’m pretty sure you’ll end up leaving feeling the same way I do when I drag my bra through my t-shirt sleeve. Chances are only half of you reading this will know what that’s like, for the rest of you the feeling is amazing.
