What do I love about the holidays? Let’s start with the songs everyone hates, decorations, and the occasional fight for the perfect gift with an old lady at a store. Those definitive seasonal pieces create an exciting winter holiday, but my favorite part is the food. Yes Christmas dinner with the family is great, but I’m talking about the warm and hearty comfort food that a restaurant serves to keep you warm from the cold city streets. Rushing into an eatery from the rain to sit down with a warm meal is my type of holiday eats! A great place to get that exact type of food and feeling is The Kitchen in Silverlake.
The Kitchen is a small and cozy spot that unfortunately doesn’t have the best parking. In spite of that, when you’re finally seated and have the menu in hand, the options to order seem endless. Depending on which menu you get (i.e. Brunch or Dinner) you can order the Italian Egg Sandwich or Pistachio Crusted Salmon. My highest recommendation is to order the Chicken Pot Pie ($15). It’s only served during specific hours, which is a bummer, but you’ll be happy if you get there at the right time. Yes, it’s a tad pricey but it’s delicious! The pie comes with the flakiest golden crust that covers a pot pie filling of succulent vegetables. It also has a side salad so it’s truly a full meal. The only disappointing part of the pie is, the entire bowl isn’t a pie crust; it’s only the top portion. As a carb-ivore, I was hoping for a complete crust for a pot pie but I’m satisfied with what I got. There’s also the Roasted Chicken Soup ($9.25) with noodles, vegetables, and free range chicken. It’s another great winter time meal to keep you warm and fill you up.
Either one that you choose are perfect holiday meals. If you’re looking for something that rings “cozy, relaxing, and delicious” you’ll find it at The Kitchen and you’ll be happy with what you get.
