Surprises are a beautiful thing.
The unexpected excitement you get when opening a box with items you’re unfamiliar with comes with both anticipation and joy. Whether you’re pulling off a bow, doing a bit of unwrapping, or all the above the moments leading up to the big reveal come with a welcome and unescapable thrill. That same kind of excitement recently took over me as I was presented with a beautiful box from Ganchic. The Downtown Los Angeles based restaurant has made a few changes throughout the pandemic – like many of us, but the restaurant’s mission has never wavered.
Ganchic came to fruition while the owner took a trip to South Korea. In reading the history of the small business you’ll learn that the beauty within the surrounding nature sparked the passion to start it. The owner’s growing desire to create food that aesthetically matched the environment, yet was made of nutritious ingredients was the motivation to bring it to the hands of others. Maybe the drive to start a healthy food business was always within the intrepid owner or maybe a nudge was needed, but regardless of what brought Ganchic to reality, seeing the box in front of me was a delight.
Untying the twine, placing the flowers aside, and opening the box revealed a near artistic arrangement of quinoa kimbap. Handmade rolls of shiitake mushroom, spicy anchovy, and Thai chicken were precisely tucked into the box snuggled between flowers and packaged sauces. It’s the type of box that is full of surprises. From the look of it to its flavor, every part of Ganchic is made with the desire to fill you with wholesome ingredients like spinach and chia seeds while providing a taste that inspires you to want more.
Out of all the surprises that have come our way, what lies within the Ganchic box is quite possibly my favorite. Delicious healthy eats displayed in the most picture-perfect way makes it one that brightens the day each time it’s unwrapped.
