Ever Bar in Hollywood Debuts Their Emmy Inspired Cocktail Menu
The 70th Emmy’s are just a day away from premiering and Hollywood has already seen the hustle and bustle surrounding the event. If you plan to watch the ceremony when it airs tomorrow evening, then there’s no better place to do it than at Ever Bar in Hollywood. Located in the Kimpton Everly Hotel on Argyle Avenue, Ever Bar is a polished and trendy space that easily brings people together over creatively created cocktails. To get into the excitement that comes along with the award show, Ever Bar debuted a 15+ page cocktail menu with drinks inspired by the Emmy nominated television shows. The colorful menu features photographs, ingredients, and descriptions of the limited cocktails as well as a celebrity horoscope, crossword, and more.
Sitting at a large marble table in the open space of Ever Bar, TJ and I ordered a few drinks and plates of food to experience the new menu first hand. Four cocktails and three plates sat before us and it didn’t matter what we started with first, we simply started.
TJ went with the Rick and Morty and Westworld. The Rick and Morty took Powers 12 Irish Whisky, Redbreast 12 Irish Whisky, Pickle Brine, Dolin Blanc, Vermouth, and Corncihon. This is a drink for the person who loves the taste of pickles because that is the drink at its essence. There’s very little to say about this unassuming and straightforward cocktial other than it is like drinking an alcoholic pickle. If that sounds appetizing to you then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one. On the other hand, The Westworld was a much smoother drink. It was made with St. George Baller Whiskey, High West Rye, Gunpowder Tea Syrup, egg white, and lime. A nod to the whiskey sour with its own twist, the Westworld was a deep and powerful drink from the very first sip. The foamed egg white was light and delicate which quickly opens your taste buds to welcoming the intensely sour cocktail. It’s a great drink to try and the presentation within the skull glass doesn’t hurt either.
TJ’s drinks aside, I had the Handmaid’s Tale and The Crown. The Handmaids Tale had Fords Gin, strawberry soda, Angostura, and lemon and topped with its own winged bonnet. At its appearance, the Handmaids’ Tale cocktail was simple and adorable especially with the fluted baking cup around the rim. It was refreshing thanks to the lemon, sweet from the soda, and the gin was almost invisible. Overall this would be a drink that you could order repeatedly and not realize you’re getting drunk until it’s too late.
The Crown was designed as a drink that would suit Queen Elizabeth II. The drink has its base in Earl Grey tea and Bombay Dry Gin mixed with Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth, vanilla, and layered with a biscotti infused whip cream sprinkled with lemon zest. The floral teacup and saucer held such a delicious cocktail that I was taken aback by the taste of it. Once the cocktail made its way past the thick and sweet whipped cream, it was warm and smooth. The gin blended so nicely with the tea while still being prominent to the taste. It was such a laid back drink in a fancy cocktail that I couldn’t help but feel like a bit of a queen myself.
In between all the drinks we had three plates of food. The first was the Seasonal Ceviche ($16) served with furikake spiced potato chips. I loved how citrus forward this bowl of ceviche was because it was light and sprightly and almost felt like the best way to start the meal. Not to be forgotten, the crispy chips were perfect to pick up the slices of avocado and chunks of shrimp without falling apart.
After the ceviche disappeared I dove into the Cheeseburger ($18) made with cheddar cheese, beefsteak tomato, lettuce, Ever Bar’s ‘awesome’ sauce, all on a brioche bun. While the burger is small, it does pack a punch to help fill you up. The crisp lettuce, the juicy meat, and the smooth cheese created such a delicious burger that I almost didn’t notice it didn’t come with fries. That was probably my only critique was there was a small $18 burger with no fries to go along with it. It’s like the two should never be separated since they go together almost as if hand in hand. Luckily, the final plate had some so I didn’t cry in the bathroom.
The Steak Frites fulfilled my need for thin crispy fries while throwing in a delicious cut of steak. The medium-rare meat was incredibly juicy and mouthwatering that each slice made way to another moment of pure elation. Adding in the fries that were sitting in the remnants from the meat only made it better.
