Every day during COVID feels dreary.
Every day during COVID also feels like a chance to achieve a goal I’ve spent weeks and months putting off. Looking at where we are now, a world experiencing a pandemic, COVID feels like an unpredictable train ride that we all just want to get back on the track. Although some days come with disheartening moments and others come with unexpected joy, I’m finding the times I can step into a restaurant – even if for a little bit – are some of the best.
That’s how it felt to be inside of Della Terra.

Inside of Della Terra didn’t look the way it would have at the start of the year.
Even though this was my first visit, I’m sure of that. Yes the seating was cozy and the display of alcohol was impressive, but the table dividers were new. The partitions between seats that were beautifully designed by the owner wouldn’t have been even an after thought during the first quarter of this year but there I stood, in awe at how well he made it look seamless to his restaurant.
Although there were separations between the seats, it still felt normal to be there.
Thanks to the smiles of the kind staff that were in attendance and the smell of a variety of dishes being made, it was as if things were ok. What made it seem as if I departed to a day when being out and about was questioned was when the food arrived. Taking my own advice when it comes to blogging during COVID-19, I ordered in advance and spent little time waiting for it to be plated to photographed.
When my plates were before me, I realized I wouldn’t have been bothered if the wait took any longer. COVID days seem to move slower so my patience has become second nature. Before me was a plate of the Roasted Vegetables ($8) and the Funghi Risotto ($26). As different as the plates were, they had so much in common. They were unanimously beautiful. Whether it was the blinding colors from the vegetables which bounced between green, red, yellow, and the white burrata or it was the contrasting white risotto against the muted brown mushrooms it was easy on the eyes. Equally, the flavors were extremely prominent in every bite that you didn’t realize you were unconsiouly reaching for another. Then a third, fourth, and “Wait, where did it go?” Gone.
Both plates made me pause and stop to take in the excitement of the moment and taste. While the past few weeks and months have been a train ride with no real end in sight, a visit to Della Terra makes the day less daunting. The atmosphere, the food, the people all have a way to make you feel like you’re in a time when COVID doesn’t exist and things are simply normal.
