My last foodie stop for dine L.A took me to Tagine in Beverly Hills. Co-owned by the oh-so dreamy Ryan Gosling, Tagine is a Moroccan restaurant with a sophisticated menu and beautiful décor. For Restaurant Week, Tagine offered diners a three course meal for $50. Taking a look over the menu, you can see an elaborate array of Moroccan delight. It all looked too appealing, but I already knew what I wanted before I walked through the giant lime colored door.
I ordered the Grilled Quail, Lamb Honey Sauce Tagine, and the Chocolate Soup (3 for $50). To set the tone for the dinner, the first plate was the Green Veggie Soup. The dish is a simple vegetable soup with sliced almonds that was paired with small servings of sweet goat cheese and kalamata olives. The soup was both hearty and smooth and each sip was followed with a slight spicy flavor that was definitely unexpected!
Once the soup was finished, the actual menu began to arrive. I was drawn to the Grilled Quail from the choices simply because it was completely different from anything else that I’ve had. It didn’t taste chicken, lamb, or duck—it was unique in its own right. It was sweet, tender, and was paired with crisp farmers market vegetables making it such a beautiful and luscious dish.
Next up was the Lamb Honey Sauce Tagine. This dish was the show stopper! It was a lamb marinated in seven Moroccan spices, paired with vegetables, and served over a cinnamon spiced couscous. It was so delicious and mouthwatering. Each time my fork penetrated the meat to pull it from the bone, it easily broke away as if it was drawn to me. It was juicy, moist, and the herb flavors bounced off the lamb. What made me fall in love with this plate was the couscous. Although I’m not the biggest fan, this serving made me a groupie. I’m a Tagine couscous groupie, wow. The reason I loved this part of the dish so much was the use of cinnamon. Most couscous is bland, but at Tagine, it was sweet and so flavorful. Incorporating cinnamon may seem odd at first, but when you realize you’ve finished the plate as quickly as you started it you’ll realize you love it too.
The final plate of the night was the Chocolate Soup. This is sweet bowl of chocolaty goodness is what baby angels dream of. It’s served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and two baklava squares sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was creamy, sweet, and fattening in the most delicious ways possible. A little pro tip from my gut to yours, dip the baklava into the soup. The combination of the two flavors is magical and will seal the deal on a great dinner.
