I can’t claim to have eaten every style of cuisine within Los Angeles, but I am working on it. Amongst all the styles of food out there, I can admit that there are some I haven’t devoted adequate attention to. Asian, Indian, African, and a few others haven’t been as heavily focused on this website as a few others, so there was no better time for me to make a change to that than now. The start to it all came after receiving an email to dine at Yalla Mediterranean in Burbank. Reading over the message I got excited at the opportunity to explore the new menu items at the fast casual location. Scrolling through the website and looking over the bright photos on their social media pages made me anticipate the day my lunch visit was scheduled.
When the day finally came up on my calendar, I couldn’t leave work fast enough. Since I didn’t eat much earlier that morninga, I couldn’t wait to get to the front of the line and have the food in my hands. With that, I had a simple order that I hoped would showcase as much of Yalla as possible. I went with the Yalla Salad Trio ($9.95) and the Street Style ($8.95) pita wrap.
With all the heavy and high caloric food I’ve been eating, I’ve needed to add more lettuce and greens to my meals. Am I saying that I’m trying to go full vegetarian? No, but I am attempting to get to a point where I can at least incorporate something close occasionally into my week. What better place to do so than to start with a salad. I liked that the salad trio at Yalla had the casual romaine lettuce served with hummus, but could include three sides of my liking. To complete the plate, I added grilled chicken as the protein, spicy feta, Greek potatoes, and the pea and mint salad. With each bite from the salad, I liked the combination of it all together with the potatoes following each forkful. The grilled taste, the refreshing mint across the peas, and the kick from the spicy feta was good. Although the potatoes didn’t have anything noticeable about them that would make them memorable to order on a second visit the unique take on the peas easily made up for it.
Following the salad, I got my hands around the item that made me most excited: the pita wrap! Kefta (Turkish spiced ground beef and lamb), hummus, pickles (I skipped these), red cabbage, French fries, tomato-cucumber salad, and feta ranch. As a person who willingly puts French fries into her food, this was an easy decision. Bite after bite, I enjoyed this wrap so much. From the feta ranch that was the perfect dressing against the nicely seasoned meat to the fries and the hummus that brought it all together within the soft wrap, I enjoyed this and was tempted to get a second just to relive it all over.
My lunch at Yalla Mediterranean introduced me to a fast casual restaurant that ultimately became a nice way to explore a simple concept towards Mediterranean food. I enjoyed having many options of add-ons that could be in salad or wrap form and that particular ingredients like the kefta were done so nicely. Thanks to Yalla, I’m excited to explore more cuisine’s I haven’t focused heavily on to see what I discover next.
