I like discovering new restaurants for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons include the chance to find a new hangout spot, or being the first to know of an up-and-coming location. While such motives can be true some of the time, the main objective in exploring someplace new is because it gives me the opportunity to find a favorite menu item. Once I found out about Bronzed Aussie and tried their Ground Beef Pie ($7.50), I knew I had uncovered a favorite.
You might be thinking, “Beef pie? I’ve never had that before, what is it?” My response to you would be, “Calm down, it’s scrumdiddlyumptious.” It’s a 5”pie the Australians created around the early 1900s. When you look at it, it’s simply a golden crusted pie that encloses various types of meat from ground beef, chicken, lamb, and more. If you think it’s a small bite, think again. It’s jammed with hearty meat and seasonings that will certainly fill you up. To make it even tastier, you can add ketchup. Want to make it mind blowing? Add potatoes and gravy to the pie that is already doused in ketchup. It may sound a tad foreign, but it’s not. If you’ve had a Jamaican beef patty, empanada, or even a pot pie, you’ve had something similar to an Australian beef pie. So don’t be apprehensive to take the first bite. You’ll enjoy it enough to take a second bite, and a third, and next thing you know you’re licking the wrapping.
As well, don’t let the pie intimidate you. You can eat it with a fork like a novice or you can dive in with your hands and take it like an Australian. Whichever way you decide to devour the charming pie, I’m sure you’ll be glad you gave it an honest chance. And if you don’t like it (which I doubt), wrap it up and give it to me. I’ll gladly finish it for you.
