Eating healthy didn’t always come naturally to me.
As a matter of fact, whatever is the complete opposite of ‘naturally’ was how eating healthy came to me. Whenever I’ve dined in a restaurant, I would make a solid attempt to pick something good for me. I would look at a menu, but usually opt for something that tasted great but did little else. Fast forward and I’ve changed a lot of my bad eating habits. Hitting my 165th day of consecutive exercising daily has helped me choose plates the provide value to my body while also tasting good. I’m not bragging on my commitment to exercising, but I am tooting my own horn with the fact that my plates are no longer only brown.

I recently stepped into Comoncy on 3rd Street to find a couple of dishes that could be filling, delicious, and not weigh me down. Ordering at the counter, I let my fingers glide across the menu to what seemed like great choices. The Albacore Salad ($15) and the Brown Rice Bowl ($14) caught my eye and would ultimately be placed before me.Tuna salad with local organic greens were coupled with Persian cucumbers and a balsamic vinaigrette, It was vibrant and it was refreshing. A large mound of tuna, leafy greens, and crisp cucumbers? Definitely felt good. What felt just as good and tasted just as nicely was the brown rice bowl. A large heaping of brown rice was entangled between slices of chicken breast and vegetables. It was all the brown I was used to, mixed with the greens that I needed. A balance of flavors and a combination of quality ingredients made it exactly what I needed.I may have spent a majority of my dining career focusing on brown food, but adding in colors from restaurants like Comoncy has been beneficial and tasteful. A visit to Comoncy for a sprightly bowl or plate will brighten your day mainly because of all the colors you’ll have in your hands – and on your fork.
