Get a Behind the Scenes Look Into the 70th Emmy Awards Governors Ball
The 70th Emmy Awards are airing on NBC tonight and the internet has been buzzing with images and news of celebrities who attended the previously recorded event. The show that recognizes and awards the best television shows and their respective actors, creative staff, and production teams took place on the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles with the Governors Ball after party immediately following the ceremony at the LA Live Event Deck. While many of the winners have already been announced such as the late Anthony Bourdain: Writing – Nonfiction Programming for Parts Unknown, Southern Italy: The Heel of the Boot, there is so much happening in between the winners grabbing their awards that you don’t always see. That includes:
- What does the Emmy décor look like?
- Which brands partner the Emmy’s and the Governors Ball?
- What are the celebs eating at the Emmy’s?
- How much food is served at the Governors Ball?
Last year I was lucky enough to get those answers when I attended the 69th Emmy Awards Governors Ball. I got to go behind the curtains to see what the celebrities ate at the Emmys and all the brands that partnered with the Emmy’s and this year I got the same opportunity! Walking onto the decorated LA Live event deck for the 70th Emmy Awards Governors Ball Press Preview I was able to see exactly what the big ceremony would look like, the food that would be served, and all the brands in attendance. Walking from table to table and grabbing a few things to eat in between, I found a few favorite brands and bites that I couldn’t wait to share today the day of the big award celebration. But before we jump into that, let’s talk about the event as a whole, shall we?
During the Governors Ball following the Emmy Awards show, guests will fill into the tented 42,000 square foot space of the LA Live Event Deck to mingle, network, and rave about the event that just proceeded. Themed, Emmys Under the Stars, guests will navigate through the black, blue, gold, and white colored interior with furniture and flower arrangements to match. With an almost un-countable amount of blue LED lights hanging from the ceiling, guests will be captivated by the sparkle and glimmer or lights transforming into stars. Executed by event producer Cheryl Cecchetto of the premier event company, Sequoia Productions, the creative team managed to design a space that feels like a perfect Los Angeles evening sans the noise from the 110 freeways and smog.
Basically, the way every night should be in Los Angeles, but isn’t.
Within the beautifully designed space, the entertainment for the night will include performances by the Los Angeles based Reverb Tap Company comprised of talented tap dancing teens from Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. Watching the young adults tap and move without sweating was captivating and stunning. Additionally, The Scott Mayo Collective featuring Sheléa will take center stage. During the press event, the two came together to offer a preview of what their performance would be like during the Governors Ball and Sheléa’s cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” with the band backing her vocals was pretty impressive to say the least.
Returning as the automotive sponsor for the 8th consecutive year, Audi arrives at the 70th Emmy awards to chauffeur presenters and nominees between the ceremonies in their select fleet of exclusive vehicles including the Audi Q7 SUV (starting at $49,900) and the Audi RS5 Coupe (starting at $69,900), pictured here. Last year, the German automotive manufacturer had the pure white R8 Spyder (starting at $177,000) as the vehicle of choice and this year they changed the appeal just a bit. With a pitch black Audi e-tron (price unavailable), Audi’s first all-electric vehicle, will premiere at the event and with a new commercial during the show for viewers.
The new 60-second commercial titled, “Unleashed”, showcases the Audi e-tron in all its sophisticated and sleek glory. Captivating viewers, the commercial commands attention with the simple statement: “We did not invent the electric car. We injected it with the Audi DNA and unleased it.”
With a 95 kWh battery giving you long distance drives on one overnight charge, an electric quattro® all-wheel drive to offer greater control in varying driving conditions, and a un-paralleled degree of silence from the motor to the dual pane windows, the e-tron is slated to be the latest vehicle that nears excellence.
Since the vehicle makes its official debut at and during the 70th Emmy awards, the car is reservation only until its release sometime during this fall of 2018. After its complete reveal, deliveries will occur early in 2019. To watch the Audi e-tron commercial, click here.
In August of last year I had the chance to attend the preview of Don Francisco’s Coffee Casa Cubana prior to the
opening of their first café and restaurant in the Spring Arcade Building in Downtown Los Angeles. I loved seeing the beautifully designed space that is full as much personality as the Gaviña family that found a passion in the coffee industry over 140 years ago in Cuba. To hear the company that has passed down the love of all things related to coffee from generation to generation, to now roasting in Los Angeles since 1967 is beyond admirable. But to see the family-based company debuting at such a globally respected event as the Emmy’s as the exclusive coffee company is so exciting! Filling up cups of their signature crafted coffee, Don Francisco is sure to keep the overwhelmed Emmy attendees, nominees, and winners awake and lively throughout the Governor’s Ball.
The assembly of bites ranges from small snacks, hors d’oeuvres, tray-passed and stationary small plates, an edible garden, items from Downtown LA’s own Nick + Stef’s Steakhouse, and eye catching desserts. Walking around the display tables of food that looked like it came out of Narnia (edible garden) and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, I couldn’t help but grab dish after dish until I discovered favorites that I couldn’t walk away from. Some of those included the hand-carved steak, cave-aged mini gruyere popovers, sweet corn agnolottie with lime brown butter, Valdivia Farms heirloom tomatoes, and most of all the coconut chia seed tapioca. The tapioca was a suggestion that chef Splichal made to me directly and although I initially rolled my eyes at the thought of delicious tapioca, I was completely captivated by the sweetness of the dessert as it blended effortlessly with the mango and chia seeds. I’m positive I had seven of them and I would have made it eight if my appetite could have allotted for another.
Among the various cocktails, water, and sparkling wine being poured throughout the evening, Sterling Vineyards will serve as the wine partner for the Emmy’s. Located in Calistoga, California, Sterling Vineyards was founded in 1964 and since then has sold a varietal of wines including Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and more. During the preview event, Sterling Vineyards offered glasses of their popular red and white wines including their coming Platinum Cabernet Sauvignon. At the Emmy’s, guests will get to try the same classics while the winners will receive something special. Each category winner will be gifted with a bottle of the winery’s exclusive, Sterling Vineyard Iridium Cabernet Sauvignon with their name personalized on the glass protecting the bottle. Their name along the wine is one level of exclusivity, but knowing that less than 1,200 bottles are made is another.
